Frequently asked questions

What is Spectra Pro and what does it unlock?
Spectra is free to download. The free tier lets you capture colors and build basic palettes. Pro unlocks unlimited saved palettes, all color format exports, Capture Replay, Color Cards, and iCloud sync. Pro is a one-time purchase — no subscription.
How much does Pro cost?
Spectra Pro is $6.99 USD, paid once through the App Store. There are no recurring charges, no hidden fees, and no ads — ever.
How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new device?
Open Spectra, go to Settings → Restore Purchases. The App Store will verify your purchase and unlock Pro instantly. You must be signed in to the same Apple ID you used to buy Pro.
iCloud sync isn't working — what should I check?
First, make sure you're signed in to iCloud on both devices (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud) and that iCloud Drive is enabled. Second, open Spectra on both devices with an active internet connection and wait 30–60 seconds. If sync is still stale, force-quit Spectra on both devices and reopen. iCloud sync is handled by Apple's CloudKit — Spectra has no server of its own to check.
Why does the camera color reading sometimes differ from a paint chip or swatch?
Lighting is the main culprit. Incandescent or warm fluorescent light casts a yellow-orange bias; blue-tinted LEDs shift colors cool. For the most accurate reading, use neutral daylight (5000–6500K color temperature) or place the chip near a window. Specular highlights and surface texture can also shift the averaged reading — try angling the chip slightly away from light sources.
What color formats does Spectra support?
Hex (#RRGGBB and #RGB), RGB (0–255 and 0–1.0), HSL, HSB/HSV, OKLCH, P3 wide-gamut, UIColor (Swift), SwiftUI Color, and CSS custom property (--color: hsl(...)). All formats are available in Pro.
Does Spectra work without an internet connection?
Yes. Every feature — camera capture, photo import, color picker, palettes, Color Cards, Capture Replay — works completely offline. iCloud sync resumes automatically when connectivity returns.
How do I share a color or palette with someone?
Tap the share icon on any color or palette. You can copy a hex/RGB value to the clipboard, generate a Color Card image, export a Capture Replay clip, or share a universal link (spectra.vendrato.com/c/...) that opens in Spectra or the App Clip on the recipient's device.
What is Capture Replay?
Capture Replay records a short looping clip of your live camera session — not just the final color, but the moment of discovery. It renders entirely on-device. No upload. Great for sharing with designers, clients, or just archiving a color story.
Is my camera footage stored or sent anywhere?
No. Camera frames are processed in real time on your device. Nothing is ever written to disk or transmitted. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What does the App Clip do?
When someone sends you a Spectra universal link and you don't have the app, iOS offers to open a lightweight App Clip instantly — no full download required. The App Clip shows the shared color and lets you add it to your library. If you already have Spectra installed, the link opens the app directly.
Spectra crashes on launch — what do I do?
Force-quit the app (swipe up from home bar, swipe up on Spectra), then reopen. If crashes persist, try: Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Spectra → Offload App, then reinstall. Still broken? File a bug with the steps below.
How do I file a bug or request a feature?
Email hello@vendrato.com with the subject line "Bug: [short description]" or "Feature: [short description]". Include your iOS version, Spectra version (Settings → About in the app), and steps to reproduce. We read every email.
Where can I find press assets and the brand kit?
The full brand kit — app icon, wordmark, palette, and screenshots — is on the Press page.
